I discuss the question of solutions to the Poisson equation that are not differentiable in the standard sense. I argue that while an additive constant of a potential is arbitrary, we do not have the freedom of choosing several arbitrary additive constants in piecewise defined potentials, else the Poisson equation will lose its validity across the boundaries of the intervals of definition. The equation can be made to retain its validity across these boundaries within an appropriate interpretation of its application to distributions rather than functions.
