Winter 2011/12: Mathematics I

New:

In the first week of the summer term there will be announced here a date for the inspection of exams probably in the week April 15 - 19, 2012.

Lectures: Mon 9.00 - 11.00 a.m. in G02-311 and Thu 3.00 - 5.00 p.m. in G02-311

Tutorials:
Ms. Alina Bondarava: Wed 11.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. in G22A-105 and
Mr. Philipp Letzgus: Thu 9.00 - 11.00 a.m. in G22A-110

Every student should attend one of the tutorials per week (preferably each week on the same day). It is recommended that both subgroups in the Wednesday and Thursday tutorials have approximately the same size.

Recommended textbook:

A textbook that includes all the topics from the lecture is available now (see Reference 1 below). The use of this textbook is strongly recommended. Further information about the book can be found here.

Examinations:

There are two-hour written examinations in Mathematics I (February) and Mathematics II (July/August). As working tools are allowed:
  • a pocket calculator
  • a printed collection of formulas (booklet used in mathematics in school, e.g. ' Tafelwerk' in Germany)
  • EITHER TWO individually prepared ONE-SIDED sheets of paper (with arbitrary material)
OR textbook `Mathematics of Economics and Business' by Werner and Sotskov

Every student should indicate the chosen variant on the cover sheet of the examination paper (`2' stands for `two pages' and `B' stands for `book'). Note that the use of a collection of (handwritten or printed) copies of pages (of whatsoever) is NOT allowed.

A selection of old examinations including answers to the problems can be found under
`Lehrmaterial' of the Faculty of Mathematics within the part `Klausuren' and below.

  • Selected Past Examinations (2 hs)

    Retake Examination July 2013 (pdf)

    Examination February 2013 (pdf)

    Retake Examination July 2012 (pdf)

    Examination February 2012 (pdf)

    Retake Examination July 2011 (pdf)

    Exercises for the tutorials:

Below you find the exercises which should be prepared by every student BEFORE the corresponding tutorial. They are identical with the problems given at the end of each chapter in the textbook by Werner and Sotskov. The answers to these problems can be found on pages 486 - 510 of this textbook (see Selected Solutions).

  • Chapter 1: pdf-File

  • Chapter 2: pdf-File

  • Chapter 3: pdf-File

  • Chapter 4: pdf-File

  • Chapter 5: pdf-File
